Visiting Hampshire College and the Pioneer Valley

Come visit. Explore our campus--and our valley. Get a close-up look at the place and a feel for Hampshire's academic program. Meet students, faculty, and admissions counselors. Learn what it's really like to live, work, and study at one of America's truly distinctive colleges. And if you find yourself getting caught up in the intellectual enthusiasm here, we promise not to say, "We told you so!"

You can structure your own visit to Hampshire, choosing from a variety of activities offered at different times during the year, including campus tours, class visits, interviews, overnight stays, and information sessions.

While on the Hampshire Campus, you may wish to rekindle your sense of wonder by visiting the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, which houses not only the work of the famed creator of the Very Hungry Caterpillar but is an international center for children’s literature and art.

You may also wish to explore Jewish culture by visiting the National Yiddish Book Center. Founded by Hampshire alumnus Aaron Lansky, the National Yiddish Book Center shares the treasures of rescued Yiddish books, representing a thousand years of Jewish history and culture and contemporary Jewish creativity.

When you're visiting "the Valley," you may want to allow extra time--to attend a lecture or performance at any of the colleges in the Five College Consortium, to spread out a casual picnic at the Summit House, or to get lost in one of the many stores and galleries in Northampton.

If you're planning to visit during New England's winter months, you may want to check our snow phone (413.559.5508) for possible delays or closings. And if you aren't able to visit, you can explore campus through our Virtual Tour.
